Code Consolidation 10/17/2008 11:17:00 AM

As a developer (and I guess an anal nerd), you are always looking to make things better, more efficient and easier to maintain.

This past 2 weeks I have been looking over the 350+ files that make up the United Leagues and with the size being what it is - maintenance is a really big effort...If I need to make a change to the team schedule page, I had to do it 7 times - once for each sport because each sport has different stat categories, tie designations (ties, draws), etc... the heart of the code - it's really just cosmetics...It's just static text...

So, being the nerd that I am, I developed a way so that I can consolidate all team pages, schedule pages, submit score pages and stat pages into a single code base by making all of the static text - dynamic.

So what does this mean to the average user here?  Bah -

But now when you click on a team icon for instance - instead of going to schedule_t_football.asp you will goto schedule_team.asp...whether the sport is baseball or footbal - you will always go to the same page now...

Doing this for all of these pages (including the mobile site) has drastically reduced the number of pages to around 250 - a BIG difference from 350!  Yep - it actually got rid of about 100 pages...

Anyways - that's what I have been doing for the past few weeks and wanted to let you guys know - I IS a blog from the UL developer ya know.

I believe the proper nomenclature is nerd.

Are there some issues going on with the news pages? I can't see them on any page on the site. I've tried Safari and Firefox, neither show them.
