Hockey in Alabama? 9/21/2008 4:29:00 PM

One thing I want to answer in my first blog post is why does a native Alabamain play video game hockey? Well, this all started back in 1995 when the Mobile Mysticks began play in the ECHL. I went to my first game and really had a good time even though I had no idea what was going on. I knew from experience that playing video games can help you learn the rules and nuances of a sport, so I went and bought NHL 97 for the PC. I was hooked. I think video game hockey is the most fun you can have with a sports video game. When NHL 99 came out I got my first taste of playing online against human competition. I had a blast with it and I have bought a hockey game every year since. I defected over to the 2K series for a couple of years but came back to EA when NHL 07 came out. To finish up the sad story of the Mysticks, they moved to Gwinnett, GA in 2003 and became the Gladiators.

I believe my beloved University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux have a gentleman on their squad from Georgia, Brad Miller I believe. Also, Alabama-Huntsville has a D1 hockey program.
