A place where I'll talk about anything going on in the world, whether it be the world of sports, UL games, music and movies, or what's in the news.

My 2009 Minnesota Twins 2/23/2009 3:01:00 AM

February 25th, first Spring Training game of the year, and wow I'm absolutely giddy. If you don't already know, I love baseball. The Twins are probably one of the most important things in my life and I watch almost every game possible, heck, I was even a season ticket owner for two years while living up there over the summers.

We recently signed Joe Crede to a $2.5 million (up to $7 million depending on plate appearences. This signing is the first time they've made an upgrade at third during the offseason since they lost Koskie (I had to watch Tony Batista play for us, TONY BATISTA!). I'm really excited to watch him in a Twins uni, because he absolutely killed us when he was with the Sox (his OPS in games against the Twins is sick). Great signing in my opinion, and apperently when it was apperent that the White Sox weren't going to resign him, that he sought out the Twins. It's a great fit, definitely fits the Twins mold of players that are sound on the field, and a great teammate that doesn't see himself bigger than the game.

Now, there is the rumor going around of a sign and trade with Arizona for Juan Cruz. IF this happens it instantly brings the Twins offseason grade from an F to an A along with the Crede signing. Cruz would be a stellar power arm to bring in late in the game so we can hand the ball over to one of the best, if not best, closer in baseball. I don't know exactly what Arizona would want for Cruz, but I'm confident our farm system has what they want.

As far as position battles, we have 4 outfielders vying for 3 spots. Delmon Young, Denard Span, Carlos Gomez, and Michael Cuddyer will have to really impress to nail down their spot, Cuddyer has the best job security out of the group. I really don't know what to expect, personally I'd like to see Gomez grow more as a player in AAA, which may sound a bit nuts because of the electrifying element he brings to every game. Denard Span, wow, the kid came up and showed why he was the future of the Twins center field for so many years. I'd like to see him take left or center. A lot of people were upset with Delmon Young's numbers after last season, not me. He lacked the power that he has shown, but put up a pretty strong average, I think he'll find his groove this season. Cuddyer probably has one of the strongest arms in baseball, and has perfected the art of playing the ball off the baggy, his offensive numbers were weak due to injury. If he's healthy, I'm not too concerned about him.

As far as lineup goes, this should be the opening day roster.

Lineup

1. Denard Span - LF

2. Alexi Casilla - 2B

3. Joe Mauer - C

4. Justin Morneau - 1B

5. Joe Crede - 3B

6. Jason Kubel - DH

7. Michael Cuddyer - RF

8. Nick Punto - SS

9. Carlos Gomez - CF

Bench:

Delmon Young, Brendan Harris, Brian Buscher, Mike Redmond

Rotation:

1. Scott Baker

2. Fransisco Liriano

3. Kevin Slowey

4. Glen Perkins

5. Nick Blackburn

Bullpen:

Boof Bonser, Jesse Crain, Jose Mijares, Joe Nathan, Craig Breslow, Philip Humber, Louis Ayala

All in all, the lineup looks strong. Rotation was great last year for its age (oldest is baker at 27), and I expect them to be better this year. Bullpen is ok, Nathan is obviously the strongest part, if we get Cruz I won't be worried about it at all.

AL Central Prediction:

Twins

Indians

Tigers

White Sox

Royals

I'm a diehard Giants fan so I understand how it feels to have this much passion for a baseball team. I like the lineup and the bullpen. The only thing I'd be concerned with is the rotation. I think a good veteran on that staff would really help out. Hopefully depending on where they are come July, you guys could add one. I curious to see how the AL Central is going to shape up. Good write up Mooj

I'm not really worried about the lineup at all... I mean we lost Santana, Silva (no biggie there), and had Liriano for almost half the season and we lost a 1-0 playoff to the White Sox with a rookie on the mound. They all have the stuff and work under one of the best pitching coaches in the game, Rick Anderson. I'm not too worried.

Jake, I understand the Sox will win, I really think it's going to be really tight so don't read into the positioning too much but, aside from your top three starters you have Bartolo Colon and Clayton Richard. I could see you finishing in second or third, but with the youth, and Konerko & Thome filing for their AARP cards soon, I just don't see a division win coming from the South Side this year. Is it a homer pick to say the Twins win? No way, they added to the team that lost a 1 gm playoff.

Mooj, Contreras is also going to be back sooner than later. All I have to say is maybe this year will be good for you guys, but once you are out of that FUCKING metrodome, no more bullshit advantage for you! Ha, Sox 1-8 last year. Also Bonser out for the year hurts the bullpen depth. I like the Sox being picked at #4 and sometimes even as the division dweller. We have question marks, but with some young guns with high potential and pitching question that include possible veteran answers too

Bonser lost it, I dont know if this injury was around last year, but he just wasn't the same. We have guys younger and much more talented in the minors to take his role.

Like I said, I think it's going to be close with how this division beats up on eachother... except the Royals (sorry D heck lol).
