FIFA - PES? XBCL - XBPL? 10/4/2008 9:49:00 AM

To address the PES v FIFA questions -

One of my issues switching back in XBPL is that we just switched over to PES last season due to a huge outcry from members here the year before - when FIFA was horrible (07). We voted and we switched - now 1 bad year of online on PES and we are going to switch back? What happens if EA lays an egg next year (which EA is famous for - one year great game, next year horrible - that’s with everything...Madden, etc. Although, they seem to be getting better - NHL is on a roll).

FIFA 08 wasn't great - we lost a lot of owners during that season (XBFLC) because they hated the game - owners were reporting fake scores instead of playing their games and I ended up simming games at the end of the season in the XBFLC. The Euro game was a huge improvement and we all forgot the complaints we had with 08.

We have lived thru many seasons of bad FIFA, yet only one of PES - I am not ready to jump off the PES bandwagon considering I never jumped off FIFA's. I have bought every FIFA game (except the Champions League game) since the franchise came out and the same for PES. I will buy both games this year.

My plans are to make sure we have our leagues on the best game possible and if we are split on which game is better, we will split the two big leagues. With the games dropping basically on the same day (PES in UK), we have the luxury to get reviews from out European brethren on whether or not they have fixed the online issue and compare the game to FIFA. With PES dropping a month later this year, the worse case scenario is the two big leagues launch on PES a lot earlier than they have ever done in the past (considering that PES use to launch in the US in March), in November.

I do have to agree with Pele, if we choose to switch either big league (XBPL or XBCL) to FIFA, I think the XBPL would be my choice due to the licensing and for sentimental value, as that is where that league was played for a few years.

XBPL- FIFA
XBCL- PES

The way it was, and the way it should be.

P.S. I love how when I look at your blog a bunch of advertisements for oral implants show up.

I'd rather not buy two soccer games. Don't play much at all offline. So it'll just be FIFA 09 for me unless European PES is flawless online. Sticking it out for the whole PES season last year was a drag for most of us (at least the folks who I talked with about it).

I tend to agree with your logic which scares the hell out of me, but you make sense. Maybe I just sit out the MLS season and only play EPL and Champions League?? I know I will end up with both games because I am a soccer fan.

FIFA or PES works for me, but I can't afford to get both. I just don't want to be left out again. My thing, if we all stuck with FIFA or PES for all the leagues, some of us could join more than one. I would play in MLS, but XBCL is my favorite. Therefore, I have to wait for the decision. If it was on the same system, I would have joined. Just my 2 cents!

While PES is smoother gameplay if the online issues are fixed, I still will not get it. After playing the past few years, the big thing I have on PES is the field to me seems way too short. One long ball from the backfield and you are on a scoring run. It takes all of like 3 seconds to go back the other way and get a break away and I have noticed that the past couple years I have played. With Club Team play, Fifa will be my choice this year.

I know we've talked about it, but I'll put my thoughts on here as well. I liked the way it was, with the PL being on FIFA and the CL being on PES. If both games are up to snuff, I think that's the way it should be. We could always do a country-centered league (Serie A, La Liga, etc.) on PES, and possibly do a lower-level club (2.5-3.5 stars for example) league on FIFA. But having those fixtures on the game gives us something to look forward to.

I'll have to agree with Josh. Not having the EPL licensed in PES is a drag. I know the licensing is just cosmetic, but it still bothers me. If we stick with the XBCL is PES everything is still licesnsed and everyone is happy. Also doing another licensed league is PES would be a plus from an authenticity standpoint. All this assuming that the PES online game usses the laws of ohysics this year and not some timewarp theory that was going on int PES 08.
