Calling all EDUCATED Car Scholars 3/10/2009 10:09:00 AM

Ok, I am looking for some serious responses here on this question.  I love cars/  trucks, for the most part on the mid to high end luxury side of the scale.  In the past 12 years, I have owned 6 vehicles and managed to have pursuaded my wife into an additional 3.

I have owned

85 Nissan 200 SX  Black (Age 18 First car  in 1992 passed down by my Dad )
97 Mazda 626 Black (which I pimped out)  -- This was my very first ride that I financed
99 Mazda Millenia Black (entry level luxury back then)
01 Toyota Seqouia Silver (pimped out with 22 inch Chrome Rims)
05 Chrysler 300C Jade top of the line package Kept 9 months wife gets pregnant with 3rd child.
05 Nissan Armada -- Redskins Burgundy

Cars my wife has owned (if it were up to her, she would have kept the 00 Galant or the Matrix.  she believes in driving a car until it can no longer run or rust eats it away.

97 MItsubishi Mirage
00 Mitsubishi Galant
03 Toyota Matrix
08 Buick Enclave

Here is what I am considering:

2009 Charger SRT8 or R/T  --- Test Drove Nice, but naked in terms of gadgets and interior design.
2009 Challenger SRT8 ( as a toy and keep my truck) least likely
Hyundai Genesis V6 or V8 -- Test drove the V6...  NIIIICCE
Mercedes R30, GL, GLK (Just a thought.. but looking at the Genesis...  this is fading in my eyes)

Toyota Sequoia (maybe)
Just stay Put an re-pimp my Armada...

Alright...  Please Some constructive input...  Thanks...

Ok,  nearly 2 years later....  and I'm still loving my decision!!!

For real? The Challenger no doubt. Just purely from a sweet car standpoint, I have no "scholarly" value.

Of course the Mercedes is going to be the nicest of all of them. Im like kelloggs, if you going for looks and power, I would look into the 300. JUst looks like one of those old gansta cars. Or you could look into the new Camero...Z28

Of course the 09' Challenger if your looking for a toy. I checked out the Hyundai Genesis the otherday. Very smooth. More room than the Challenger too. Esp. for kids. Sporty yet classy.
Although i do like the pimped Armada.

well Fellas. After driving the charger R/T V8, and then driving the Genesis V8. no comparison... The Genesis blew it away not only in Horses, but number of heads turned.I decided on fully loaded, Black on Black Genesis V8. Its settled. So far.I love this car.. Not quite as much as I will miss my Mada but like the name says..3 kids + Challenger = Angry Wife! Genesis... "The Beginning." Time to start over. I'm changing my profile pic and GT to JpaGenesis. Maybe ill win some games now.. LOL

Jpag I know you're set on the Genesis, but its no way that car will keep its value like the Charger. You have to look at that also since you have had soooo many cars within small amount of time. I know some heads turn( wihch I can not see the genesis having more heads turn than a charger)but when its time to trade it in the dealer will trun his head too and not in a good way LOL...... just keeping it real man

Hey wigs. thanks for your input.. but I don't think you did your home work. Lets do apples to apples here... V8 2009 genesis vs V8 R/T Charger (BASE MODEL no upgrades) since genesis is new.. KBB figures the following: Genesis V8 base 37250 2yr resale - 57% 21232, 3 yr 47% 17507, 4yr 39% 14527, 5 yr 31% 11547
Dodge 2009 R/T Charger MSRP 32160. 2yr resale 44% 14150, 3yr 36% 11577.60, 4yr 29% 9, 326.40, 5yr 23% 7396.80

A top of the line V8 Genesis maxes out at 42500, R/T 39-41K

If you look at the 2008 Charger R/T alone, in 2010 the residual is only 37%, yr3 30% yr 424% yr 5 20%. If you compare the 2009 V6 to the V6,
after 2 yrs the Genesis holds firm at 57% while the 2009 R/T V6 in 2 yrs is only 41% Base price 2009 V6 Genesis is 32250 and base price R/T V6 is 29790. Why do I put so much stock in KBB? Every car that I've ever owned I've based the value come trade time on KBB. I always came out better than KBB. just got rid of my 2005 armada, came out plus $1500

With that being said, I know my cars and I know how to deal. In 12 years, between my wife and I, we've had 10 vehicles. I've come out in the green on all of them. You just have to know what you are doing. I have no doubt that in 27-36 months.. I'll be on top. The heads I see turn for the Charger are on the ones that are pimped out with the 22inch shoes. I haven't done anything to mine YET, except tint the windows and keep her clean. But thats now whats important. Whats important is in 3 yrs

when Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep are out of business, I'll be rolling by the bus stop in my Genesis waving at all the Dodge owners who couldn't get their cars fixed because they have no place to take them. (a bit extreme I know) but on the real, so if do my math correctly, in three years, at the very worst case, I'll break even / few K's on top vs. the RT there is no way on could come out even or on top. Chrysler /Dodge / Jeep is practically giving their cars way. That should speak for itself.

LOL.. hey man... I should work for Car and Driver or something. My wife hates when I talk about Football and Cars... she literally leaves the room.. LOL.. overall I think I did good. Don't get me wrong now.. Aint like seeing a Charger come up from behind in your rear view mirror. Man those head lights are nasty fierce.. LOL only difference now is.. I can keep it in my rear view mirror if I want to.. Unless of course is the SRT8 than i'd have to do like they do in NASCAR and do the block move.
