The view from Canada (The360Gambler)

I am a proud  father of 2 girls (aged 11 & 8) living in Dieppe, NB...That is in Canada (3 hours east of the Maine border) for all you Americans

I will blog on pretty much anything...so stay tuned!
Cassel/Vrabel 2/28/2009 2:36:00 PM

As a Pats fan I am happy to see them moving Cassel now. Even with Brady's health concerns, heading into a season with that much $ & cap space tied up in 2 Qb's did not make much sense.

I was surprised to see Vrabel included in the deal, the Pats likely feel/saw a decline or are really looking to get younger on Def (which they did start some this year (Mayo/Meiweather) but they still need to do more).

I can see the value for the Pats of the 34th pick instead of the 3rd overall given the huge contract demands of early picks BUT I am surprised the Patriots did not get a late pick this year OR a mid round pick next year along with the 34th pick overall since the Chiefs got both Cassel & Vrabel.

Either way this makes sense for both teams althought I can see Cassel struggling some this year imo.

The Patriots really need to invest some of there cap savings from this trade into a dependable/veteran back up QB & draft a LB or 2 this year.

On a side note, I really like the Fred Taylor signing

Cap space = long term deal for Wilfork. Good move. Sorry to see Vrabel go, though, he'll forever be a Patriot.

With the money they are saving, I wouldn't be surprised if they go after Julius Peppers. Seems like Belichik's kind of multi-positional player that needs a change of scenery.

Write it down. Stephen McGee will be drafted by the Pats or Texans and will become the NEXT Tom Brady.

NFL investigating this trade?

2 players for 1 draft pick?

this should be interesting.

This is typical Pats..... not that this is a bad thing but it's them. I think its a good move, we all knew Brady was getting his spot back and to honest when was the last time the Pats had a 1st round pick that surpass any of there 4th -7th round picks LOL. They dont need high picks to make great players. They have proved this time and time again. Thats why Im a fan. If they loose a person the next person has to step up & this organization makes sure they do.
